Autozone Fires Employee for Foiling Robbery

Here’s the news story:
AutoZone Fires Worker Who Stopped Robbery

And here is the letter I just sent Autozone…
referencing AutoZone’s upcoming Dec 12 stockholders meeting:

SUBJECT:
Stockholders Meeting – You need new management {with a brain}

RE the recent firing of Devin McClean…
Congratulations on using a “zero tolerance” policy as an excuse to fire a man who risked his own life to save a fellow employee AND save Autozone from an armed robbery, right before Christmas.

Zero tolerance policies are an excuse to avoid the implementation of reason. Are you aware of how many military medal recipients were disobeying orders or policy when they saved others. That’s the basis of the Medal of Honor verbiage “above and beyond the call of duty”.  But in order to satisfy your silly legalistic policy you did harm to a man who served you well.

Autozone has shot themselves in the foot. I will no longer shop there, period. I have choices, I will vote with my feet. Many others agree. Check your Facebook page for verification, or today’s stock prices if you want a better look.

Many, many American veterans, gun owners, and just plain folks that value common sense, decency and fair play will take note of this ridiculous and callous display by Autozone. We too have a “zero tolerance” policy. We will not spend a dollar of our money to support heatless, spineless, brainless corporate idiots.

I am an EX AutoZone customer.

Have a nice day.

Rob Jones

“It’s our policy” is a stupid excuse for doing something this dumb, but so far that’s the hill they decided to plant their flag on. Feel free to join me in sending these bozos a message.
